YouTube experiments with a smaller ‘Skip Ads’ button

    SEO News August 22, 2023
Creators on YouTube enjoy expanded external linking options

YouTube is currently testing a revamped “Skip Ads” button, featuring a smaller size, reduced opacity in the background, a curved border, and no capital letters in the word “Ads.”

The new button design aims to provide a more consistent user experience in line with YouTube’s updated look and feel announced last year. By making the “Skip Ads” button less noticeable, users may be less inclined to skip ads, potentially leading to higher view rates, reach, and conversions. However, marketers should be cautious about forcing ads on users, as it could have a negative impact.

The redesigned button was noticed by Thomas Eccel, a Google Ads expert, who speculated that the smaller size and new format of the button could affect view rates and campaign spend if rolled out for all users. Besides, some users have also questioned if YouTube is simultaneously making ads longer.

The new skip button design aims to align with YouTube’s updated look and feel, fulfilling users’ calls for a cleaner and more lively UI. The platform’s small makeover is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance user experience.
