Meta Addresses Overcharging Advertisers in Recent Outage, Promises Refunds in the Offing
Global tech giant, Meta, has extended an apology to numerous affected advertisers following an unexpected Ads Delivery outage that led to excessive charges peaking in the thousands.
After re-establishment of normal service, Meta expressed deep regret for the inconvenience caused and reassured parties that refunds are under process. Adequate restitution, however, might require a waiting period of between a month and two months.
It is essential for all affected advertisers to apply for refunds, although actual payments are not promised. To amplify the chances of receiving a complete refund, there are certain suggested measures one can take.
Growth and Performance Marketing Consultant, Barry Hott advises advertisers to intimate their Meta representative or support team about the issue to “increase the likelihood of a refund for you and for everyone.”
Hott also provided a clear, step-by-step guide to help individuals file a complaint effectively. He suggests a direct message to Meta support:
My campaigns overspent their budgets and seemed to ignore their cost caps yesterday due to a confirmed widespread Meta ad delivery outage, causing campaigns to spend more than expected and did so extremely inefficiently, causing me to lose money.
Succeeding this, you will be redirected to a menu where you need to choose “claim refund for ad spend” followed by selecting your ad account and “other ad account issue”.
In the next window, you would paste the same message along with a screenshot of Meta’s Status Page.
To fortify your claim, consider uploading screenshots of your account performance during the outage, and answer all support questions in a polite and patient manner.
A multitude of advertisers have reported losing sizable amounts due to the Meta Ads Delivery outage.
Various experiences of advertisers on X and Y pointed out how they lost significant sums with little to no reimbursement.
Meta has remained silent on the matter when approached for comment by Search Engine Land.
